In comparison with other countries, it’s sometimes hard to find opportunities in Argentina to live sustainably. The environmental movement here is gaining speed, however, and a variety of groups are organizing events like Sabe La Tierra’s farmer’s market or the Buenos Aires critical mass bike group.
Now Ambientate and partner organizations are taking Argentina’s environment engagement to the next level. On February 25 and 26 they are sponsoring FestEco, Argentina’s first zero-carbon festival. It will take place in cheLA, an independent cultural space in Parque Patricios. The free programming will offer something for everyone, from an energy-generating bike to a totally green food area. There will also be workshops, activities for children, informational stands, a market, educational games about our carbon footprint, an organic vegetable patch, talks and films, and the planting of trees in the neighborhood.
One of the biggest planned activities is a massive clothing and book swap. As the saying goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”! How does it work? When you bring in your used (or new) garments, books and/or toys, you will receive 1 voucher for each item, which you may then exchange for “new” items in Exchange Area. You may receive up to 10 vouchers. The rest will be donated to FestEco’s benefitting charity, Yo No Fui.
If you bring your items in advance to one of the following locations, you receive one extra voucher. You can also bring your items directly to the festival, but the organizers say it would be a great help to have the goods ahead of time. There will also be a design area where you will be able to make small alterations or create totally new items with your “old” garments.
