The rumors are true, you will see Buenos Aires become a cozy ghost town as many Porteños head out for their summer vacations. Hopefully you’ll get a chance to escape the city for much needed rest from partying until the early morning hours and the city’s hustle and bustle. But just in case you are stuck here, or need a quick beach fix, you won’t have to roam too far.
Buenos Aires is bringing back its highly successful summer project Buenos Aires Playa. Expect the works: beach chairs, umbrellas, showers to keep cool, bars, sports fields, soccer tournaments, dance and sport classes in addition to live music and other cultural events. But most importantly, sand and sun.
You can either head north of the city to Parque de los Niños (located in Núñez, take colectivo 28) or south to Parque Roca (on Escalda and 27 de Febrero, colectivos 91 and 115 will take you there). So round up your friends, grab a couple of beers, and don’t forget the sunblock when you head to the beach, open from Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 8pm, beginning on January 8th and closing February 28th.
The artificial beach can be a nice alternative to other local favorites, such as Los bosques de Palermo, the BA go to, where you can people watch under a nice tree shade, rollerblade, skateboard, or ride around in your bici.
If you are looking for a longer weekend getaway from the city consider heading down to El Tigre, which offers kayaking, boating, and canoeing options along the Paraná delta if you are wiling to spend the night. Colectivos 152, 59, or 60 make the two hour trip there from Downtown Buenos Aires, however you can also take the Tren de la Costa at Estación Mitre, which will take you along a more scenic route.
