How much do I tip the Delivery Guy?

It´s raining and you don´t feel like going out to eat. Or you are so busy that you haven´t got time to go shopping or to spend hours at a restaurant. So you order in – makes sense. Then comes the awkward moment. The delivery boy turns up and he´s standing there with your food but you don´t know what to say. Gracias?! If you were in a restaurant you´d leave a tip that was appropriate for the kind of service you received. But what do you tip a guy who bikes to deliver your food, who brings it to your door but who doesn´t serve it?

The answer is simple. Many of these guys don´t get paid even; they rely on tips to make a living. So a tip of some sort is definitely in order no matter if it is raining, ridiculously hot and humid, or just another day.

If its a small order (for one person): feel free to give him your loose change or a 2 peso bill.
If its a bigger order (over 100 pesos): 3-5% would be appropriate.

If you don´t have change, ask him. He probably will have change and would be happy to get the tip! And, if its raining really hard or it´s very cold or very late, or if you´re just feeling generous, then don´t hesitate to give him a bit more!

Appreciating the hard work you put into your site and detailed information you present. It’s great to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same outdated rehashed information. Wonderful read! I’ve saved your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.

An absolutely useful website service! My Spanish is almost nonexistent and it is often frustrating to try to place a delivery order on the phone, speaking to mostly non English speaking people at the other end of the line.
With this, my life has been much much easier.
Wish you could add more restaurants to my area’s list, though. As of now, although it is still great, it is still kinda limited. I live in the Alto Palermo area, you know.. :)

    Regards
