The party is over folks. Buenos Aires, which used to be an affordable place to live is getting muy caro.
Last Sunday (October 16th) the taxis of Buenos Aires increased their prices from a base price of AR$ 4.60 to 5.80. This follows a similar move last December from 3.80 to 4.60.
This constitutes a whopping 65% increase in 10 months!!!
What used to be a cheap and easy way to get around is now almost RIDICULOUSLY expensive. This is unfortunate for both taxi drivers and us taxi-takers. There is no doubt that demand is going to drop, as people will rely even more on the public transportation system.
So – What does this mean for you?
- A – Get a Guia T and learn the bus system. It is more than 10 times as cheap, and just about as effective.
- B – The subte and busses will be even more crowded. Causing more sardine time, groping, and sweatiness.
- C – Order Delivery Instead. Hey, if that cab ride to the restaurant is going to cost you 20 pesos each way, why not just order delivery instead and let them pay for the transportation costs?

Nice post, it helped me make my final choice and I could also prove my friend wrong, thx!
Prices are going up AGAIN! Still cheaper than Toronto, but BA is quickly closing the gap.
