Started by three friends who wanted to bring the traditional flavors of Peruvian food to the Buenos Aires street, El Chalaco offers a nice change from typical Argentine cuisine. The masters at El Chalaco have focused their attention on recreating Peruvian street food, particularly the sandwiches that are sold on street corners throughout Lima and other cities.
Their menu offers eight sandwich options, from a classic beef burger to crispy or grilled chicken, turkey, or pork. They also feature an Asian-inspired sandwich, with marinated beef, soy sauce, and fresh ginger. Each sandwich comes with various toppings including lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, cheese or avocado and are stacked on top of a large freshly-made bun. Sides include traditional French fried potatoes, sweet potato fries, and Yucca fries. For dipping, order one of their home-made sauces. Mayonnaise, mustard, sweet and sour, and huancaína (traditional Peruvian salsa made with fresh cheese, yellow pepper, onions, milk, and bread) are just four of the delicious options.
The Palermo Hollywood based restaurant is also a juice bar, featuring freshly made juices ranging in price from just 10 pesos to 16 pesos. Order a range of classic flavor combos, such as orange-banana, strawberry-banana-pineapple, or apple-pear-lime. Or if you want a more unique juice experience, try one made with traditional Peruvian fruits such as chirimoya, lúcuma, or maracuyá (passion fruit).
